Coaching and Checklists

'Real Time' Workplace Coaching

  • Changing habits and applying the core principles on a consistent basis takes support and encouragement once delegates have returned from training. Although this is the role of the line manager, pace of work and competence often mean that this is overlooked
  • Our experience shows that immediate on-the-job coaching support, in most cases, increases the effectiveness of learning by over 50% after two coaching sessions. It also shows the management’s commitment to changing behaviour
  • A coaching checklist will ensure everyone is ranked with the same approach, enabling objective comparisons between staff
  • The scores on these coaching checklists will be used as one of the success measures of the programme

Coaching Checklists

As part of the development process, a number of expectations or ‘process checklists’ will be developed. These checklists give guidelines or expectations to the participants as to how they should conduct themselves when providing services, and how they will be observed/coached.
These formalised checklists can:
  • Provide a benchmark or checklist to refer to and evaluate against
  • Help individuals understand expectations and improve their own performance
  • Provide an easy recording mechanism for managers and coaches when observing staff
  • Make the evaluation process much more transparent
  • Give an easy record in preparation for annual or more formal appraisals
